Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to our school. Croeso i’n h’ysgol ni!

As a past pupil myself, I am very proud to be the new Headteacher of Dŵr y Felin School and I am very much looking forward to working with pupils, parents, staff and the Governing Body to continue to develop the excellent reputation of the school.

The school is a successful, caring and friendly environment, where the safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils is paramount. Pupils say that they feel safe in school and that they value the support from the staff and fellow pupils. Our main school rules are built around “RESPECT” and we emphasise positive strategies and rewards to encourage pupils to make the best choices regarding their behaviour. These high expectations and standards support both learning in the classroom and the ethos around the school.

We want pupils to be ambitious and set themselves goals and dreams that they can strive to achieve, not only during their five years at the school, but throughout their lives. This positive attitude is reflected in our motto: “Nid da lle gellir gwell” meaning “It isn’t good enough if it isn’t your best”.  We view learning as a partnership and listen intently to the voices of our pupils to help us determine how all aspects of the school may be improved.

It is our aim that all pupils feel valued members of an inclusive school community. We strive to provide all pupils with equal access to the best learning by removing any barriers and ensuring that the provision and experiences we offer suits the needs of each learner. Through a wide and diverse curriculum, our aim is to provide a range of experiences that deliver a breadth and balance through appropriate academic or vocational pathways. Across the curriculum, we also place a significant emphasis on developing pupils’ wider skills including literacy, numeracy and digital competency.

The school has an enviable reputation and tradition for excellence in sport, music, drama, charity work and the promotion of the Welsh language and culture. We encourage all pupils to take advantage of these opportunities to enhance their development as healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

At Dŵr y Felin, we are all learners; we take pride in being a learning organisation where staff work together to learn and develop professionally so that we are able to best support the pupils in our care. All of the staff within the school work extremely hard and are driven to provide the best learning for all pupils.

Through an extensive range of cluster projects, we work closely with our partner primary schools to ensure a seamless transition for all pupils. This has been recognised as an outstanding feature of the school by Estyn and the Local Authority. We also recognise the importance of a positive partnership with parents and carers, to ensure every child enjoys success. The quality of our relationships with pupils and their families is essential to us and I look forward to welcoming you as part of our community.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in and support of Dŵr y Felin School.

Mrs P J Peet
