Pupil Achievement

Year 11 pupil, Lara-Jai Lewis, has been selected to dance in the opening ceremony of the UEFA Champions League Cup Final in Cardiff on June 3rd. She will be taking part in the opening ceremony with the artist who has not yet been named. Lara-Jai has appeared as a dancer on television previously, on channel 5 and CBBC, but this will be her first paid work as a professional dancer. Pupil success

Congratulations to Ewan Partington on receiving the Mark Jones Award in the annual West Glamorgan Youth Music concert held in the Brangwyn Hall last night. Ewan is currently principal clarinettist of the County youth wind orchestra and was selected to receive this award for his commitment and achievements. Also ex-pupil Baydn Hughes received the John Jenkins young performer award. Baydn is currently auditioning for music colleges and has already received an unconditional offer for the Royal Welsh College of music…

Pupil Success

Congratulations to Bethan Tew in Year 7 who won Student of the Year at her drama school’s award ceremony. Her drama school is Fame Factory Theatre School and consists of four schools covering Ammanford, Caerphilly, Pontyclun and Neath. The main school caters for children aged 7 – 17 and she beat off competition from over 120 other students from all four schools, many of whom were much older than her, to win the most prestigious award of the evening!

Engineering Challenge Success!

Congratulations to Year 9 pupils Catrin Daniels, Charlotte Beynon, Kirsty Coombes and Sophie Giddings who made up the winning team at the Engineering Challenge event organised by the Institute of Chartered Engineers that was held recently at Swansea University. The team had to design a support structure for a river bridge that was cost effective, efficient and able to withstand floods, storms and tides. Wales Schools Debate Competition

Yesterday the debate team competed in the regional round of the Wales Schools Debate Competition.  Preparation for the debate was real teamwork, with Aimee England, Lowri Beynon, Ffion Beynon and Rachel Penney working together to propose the motion “This house would only imprison criminals who pose a continuing threat to society”.  Aimee and Lowri debated on the day, and held their own against older and more experienced debaters.  Whilst they weren’t the winners, they both debated fantastically well, with Lowri…

Year 11 Community Challenge

All Year 11 pupils at Dwr y Felin School have had the opportunity to spend the week completing their Community Challenge for their Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate. Pupils were able to select activities that were suited to their interests and skills. Through these activities pupils developed a range of important life skills and this allowed them to gain ‘real life’ purposeful experiences within and outside the school environment.This involved organising sporting activities in local primary school, visiting Port Talbot Fire Station to speak with the Arson…
