Congratulations to our Year 10 & 11 Cricket Team who won the Tavener’s Cricket Competition on Monday. That have now qualified for the schools finals in the Swalec Stadium, Cardiff on Tuesday. Year 8 Netballers placed 3rd in their netball tournament yesterday – a strong team who lost only to the school who won overall. Well done to all. It is the turn of Year 9 today at Cwmtawe.

From 1st July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent duty. Good news; our year 10 football team won 3-2 against St Julian’s in Newport last night. They are now in the quarter finals of the Welsh Cup!

On Saturday 16th January Dwr-y-felin Music Department were part of a special screening of the hit film ‘Pride’ in the Gwyn Hall Neath organised by the British Film Institute (BFI) for the ‘Britain on Film Special Screenings’. The film is set in the summer of 1984 during the Miner’s Strike and at the same time there is the Gay pride march taking place. A reminder that your child will be sitting Unit 1 English Language on 08/01/2016 (am) and Unit 2 on 12/01/2016 (am). All pupils have revision tasks to practise their exam skills so please encourage them to complete these over the next two weeks. Additional past papers can be found on the WJEC website.
The Festival of Music last night was fantastic! A big thank you to all staff and pupils that were involved but especially Rachel and Hywel. Our pupils were an absolute credit to the school. Successful night of netball last night. Girls from Years 7 – 10 played in an inter-year tournament showcasing their skills. A successful event that will be replicated in the New Year. Reminder that there are NO clubs after school next week. They will commence again after the Christmas break.
